Evocation of the Shadow Self

Evocation of the Shadow Self.

A seldom recommended piece of sorcery, designed to force the aspiring mage to confront the hidden aspects of themselves. To embrace the darkness within, and accept it as a part of oneself, is the goal of such a ritual. Reflecting on my own experience with this, served as the inspiration for this piece.

The Last Terraphim

Back when the Terraphim was the basis for a fantasy graphic novel. The philosophy of the protaganists became so detailed and complex, that the story became lost in the character building. Some day I’ll get back to this fiction project.

The story follows a handful of Portlanders, assassins and monks from another world, and military mages who work for a shadow government. All of them are attempting to unravel a metaphysic mystery, while maintaining their personal resolve and ego biases, in the face of an earth shattering paradigm shift that threatens to the continued existence of three different worlds.

A friend’s request – Finished

My best friend’s request, is complete.

Each corner of the outer triangle contains a cross, the intersection of variables. At bottom left, a single crossed intersection.

The basic crossing of spacial coordinates. x.

The bottom right, two intersections. Spacial coordinates, x y.

The top, three intersections. Spacial coordinates, x y z.

The words around the outer triangle read:

“As you gaze inward, outward gazes on you, all gazing eye of chaos”

The 3 symbols around the eye are the Tria Prima: Mercury (bottom left) , Sulfur (top center), and Salt (bottom right). Sulfur embodies the soul, (the emotions and desires). Salt represents the body (basic animal qualities). Mercury is the spirit (imagination, moral judgment, and the higher mental faculties). The pupil of the eye itself, is a chaos sphere. The paradox of the pupil being a hole within a sphere of the eye, a hollow chaos sphere.

Prey: A rabbit.
Predator: A wolf.
Opportunist: A crow. Capable of being prey, predator, and scavenger. Not limited to the x and y spacial coordinates, but also z, through flight. It looks down upon those who move two dimensionally.
These three animals are indicative of human behaviors. There are those who live simply and live each day getting by. There are those who hunt the ones who live simply, making a meal of the prey for their smaller pack. And there are those who can fluctuate between such states, and are able to see a bigger picture because of it.
I had a great deal of fun putting this together.

Bio-Tech Baphomet

With all the work in my Sepia Esoteria folder of late, I decided today was one for The Baphomet, or the folder would be incomplete. It’s been awhile since I last meditated upon this creature, and it always brings me a sense of calm balance.

The Experiment

None may know the depths of private discourse and disillusion contained in the mind of the occultist.

The secret worlds behind a barrier of whimsy and study, safe in the confines of the mind, negating outside influences as irrelevant to the grand task.
For if those outside might glimpse a smattering of the order in the chaos within the mind, the smiling mask may drop away, to cleanly wipe expression from the face of the exposed.
For what is it to see the true face of a goddess or god?
What horrible truths, safely locked away, are seen not in the light of day but under shrouds of occulted intentions.
The real self exposed is a compromised experiment in progress, the potential findings lost in a sea of experience and probability.
Thus, beneath and beyond the hermetical trickster lies a truth so profound, that even language fails to express it.
Yet it is language that exists for that very purpose, that the unknown becomes known, and the knowledge known is but a pale reflection of what knowledge is to come.
It is a grand adventure into the unknown, and the frightening reality that one can never know knowing.
The step outside of comfort is the step toward progress, though one may never know what one is progressing towards.
The eternal experiment is compromised by the variables allowed in an ordinarily self-contained system.
From these variables, a new experiment takes shape, and shapes the lives of those participating in it.
The variables are love and trust and sharing.
The experiment, is us.
